Typical House

A typical house in the UK would have electric for appliances and gas for central heating. Below an idea of how much a typical 2, 3 and 4 bed house might use, however every house different.

It may surprise you that the energy required to heat a house with gas is a lot more than with electric but because the price per unit of gas is so much less (in 2019 domestic electric was around 18p/kwh and gas 5p/kwh), annual bills are cheaper with gas. This has become a problem when trying to reduce emissions as from an environment perspective, electricity can be decarbonised but gas is much harder.
